How Substitutions Work in CLUB

CLUB uses automatic substitutions to make sure your team still scores points if one of your starting players doesn’t play. Here’s how it works:

  1. Only your starting 11 score points

You only earn points from the 11 players in your starting lineup. Points from unused substitutes do not count.

  2. If a starting player doesn’t play

If one of your starting players doesn’t appear in their real-life match, they become eligible for an automatic substitution.

  3. Position-for-position swaps

Substitutions happen only on a like-for-like basis:

    • A defender can only be replaced by another defender.

    • A midfielder can only be replaced by another midfielder, and so on.

  4. When the substitution happens

A substitution takes place once it’s confirmed that the starting player did not play and there’s an eligible substitute available on your bench.

  5. Bench order priority

If multiple substitutes are available in the same position, the player furthest left on your bench will be chosen first.

    • If that substitute also doesn’t play, the system will move to the next eligible player.

  6. How it appears in-game

    • A successful substitution is shown when a bench player replaces an inactive starter in your lineup.

    • The substitute who comes on will show a green and white arrow on their player card (on the Head-to-Head Lineup screen), meaning their points now count toward your total.

    • The replaced player will move to the bench and display a red and white arrow, showing they’ve been subbed out.

  7. Example

Suppose one of your defenders doesn’t play.

    • You have two defenders on your bench, in positions 2 and 4.

    • The defender in position 2 takes priority if they’ve already played or if their match hasn’t yet started.

    • If that player also doesn’t play, the substitution will move to the next eligible defender (position 4).

    • If no valid substitutes are available (because none have played or positions don’t match), no substitution will occur.
